Re:Frame Visual Arts Analysis
Brighton & Hove has a rich visual arts scene, with a high concentration of artists, organisations and creative activity that shapes the city’s identity. However, like many places, the sector faces increasing challenges, from rising costs to pressures on public funding.
Re:Frame is a city-wide research project commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council and Arts Council England, in collaboration with Brighton & Hove Visual Arts Coalition (BVAC) and Brighton & Hove Culture Alliance (BHCA). It draws on insight from artists, organisations and stakeholders to better understand the current landscape and identify future opportunities.
Grounded in extensive sector engagement, Re:Frame highlights both strengths and the need for greater coordination, collaboration and long-term thinking. Its key ambitions include raising the city’s profile, strengthening the visual arts marketplace, improving access to workspace, supporting talent development, expanding public art, and building a more unified vision for the sector.
A core principle is that its recommendations should be sector-led. Re:Frame is intended as a starting point - a foundation for ongoing collaboration, discussion and action across Brighton & Hove
